A Dangerous Game by Friedrich Dürrenmatt is a book with much potential, but that fails in the end.
The whole premise and execution are superb, and Dürrenmatt keeps the reader wanting more and more. The situation is surreal, but the writer makes it completely believable.
Almost to the end, the story keeps the reader on the edge of the seat. The lawyers and the judge create a remarkable trial.
However, when the book gets close to the end, everything falls apart. The believable surrealism metamorphoses into confusion, and the end makes no sense.
A Dangerous Game proves that a lousy ending ruins a great book.
